The easy and general rule is you should wait to open your pool until the daytime temperature is a constant 70 degrees or above. Most people would agree that 70-degree weather is still a bit cold to swim, but it’s not too cold for Algae. Algae will start to grow in your pool when the weather gets warm if it’s still covered. Springtime is Pollen season also, and the best way to stop pollen from collecting in your pool is to get your pool pump up and running.
When surveyed, the majority of pool owners open their pools at the beginning of May. Here in the Phoenix area, that varies a little bit. By March, we are looking at 70+ degree days, so if you have closed your pool and covered it, you will be able to open it up way sooner than a lot of other places in the country.
