Why your pool loses water in the winter

BY: Dem 850 COMMENTS CATEGORY: Uncategorized

Pool water levels going down in the wintertime is perfectly normal. On really dry cold days, your pool can lose up to a quarter inch of water in a 24-hour period.
When the humidity in the air is low, moisture is drawn out of your pool into the air. The lower the humidity be higher the evaporation for standing water.

If you have more water loss than is normal, it’s important to check for leaks. Areas that you should check for leaks include the skimmer assembly, all ladders, metal fittings, the pump room floor, and the decking around the pool; these areas are easy to see if there’s a leak, even if it’s during the winter.
Should you add water to your pool in the winter or let it evaporate? Adding water to your pool in the winter is optional. It’s often recommended to have your water level 5 to 6 inches below the skimmer in the winter to allow the water to expand, so allowing your water level to drop is perfectly ok.
